Jim Benton never ceases to amaze me with his talent for humor. In this book, he offers up a clever, entertaining story for young readers with bright, engaging illustrations. I received a copy from him for my sister, who is a teacher and before handing it over for her class, I read it to my 1 year old grandson; being geared toward older children didn't matter, he loved the illustrations, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it to him! Donut miss out on this exciting new title teachers & add a copy to your children's library as it is sure to be an all-time favorite!
Teacher Approved!

I received one of these goodies for free from Jim for my classroom. My kindergarteners adored it and cracked up harder as the story rolled on. The book was great for making predictions and brainstorming other silly things that Donut could have potentially done to keep his story from ending. Placed the book in my library and noticed the kids acting out Donut's parts and creating additional silly skits .

Donut is a blue bear and in THE END (ALMOST) he's the star of his own story. However, when the story is over, Donut doesn't want it to end and does everything he can to keep the end from happening. I was a guest reader at a preschool and read this story and the children loved it and adored Donut. Perhaps he'll get to star in even more stories of his own in the future, but if not, you can do like the book suggests and read THE END (ALMOST) over and over again.
Love, love, love this book!

I am a longtime fan of Jim Benton and jumped at a chance to receive a free copy for our school library. I haven't been able to stop reading it since it arrived. The illustrations are bold and funny, and the story is very clever. Even though it is classified as a picture book, the story is a hit with our young readers, my teenage boys, and adults alike. I have already added several copies to my shopping list for gifts this year. Keep 'em coming!

The 5 star reviews are dead on the money for this book. It's hilarious for both my 4 year old and myself!
Donut is a stubborn little guy who is determined to make his book longer and more interesting, no matter how much the narrator says the story is over. I'd put it in the same category as the classic "Monster At The End Of This Book" featuring Grover. Both have the main character realizing he's in a book and trying to manipulate the story.
It's great fun! There is not moral or overt message or lesson to be taught in this book. It's just a great book to make your kids laugh out loud.
Great book for ALL ages!
